Filscap's New Home
After 42 years of renting office space, FILSCAP finally moves into its own home. The new office is now completely finished, and the old office on E. Rodriguez has been closed since November 15, 2006.
JASRAC Study Visit
The World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in cooperation with the Japan Copyright Office (JCO) and JASRAC sponsored 4 representatives from the Philippines for a 5-day study visit in Tokyo. The Philippine delegation was composed of Filscap's Chairman, Mr. Nonoy Tan, GM Debbie Gaite, NCCA Commissioner Felipe De Leon Jr. (also a Filscap member), and the Executive Director of OPM, Mr. Elmar Ingles.
Alex Catedrilla & Blitz Padua
ALEX CATEDRILLA (August 12, 1956 to Sept. 29, 2007 )
Member and former Trustee Alex Catedrilla passed away at Medical Center Manila due to cardiac arrest. Alex has been a Filscap member since 1982, and wrote popular songs such as Iisang Damdamin, Ibigay mo na.
Alex is survived by his mother Clarita Catedrilla, and siblings Jerry, Thelma, VIlma Valencia, Nelson, and Jovy.
Members Celebrate Christmas
It was a joyous Christmas Party at the new FILSCAP office last December 13, 2007. Over 200 people including, members, guests and employees came to the celebration held at the new property's parking area.
GMA 7 Sets Up Compliance Unit
In its effort to uphold music copyright, GMA Network has established the Music Compliance Administration Unit under the Audio Section of Post Production. Ably headed by Ms. Maritoni Falconi, the MCA unit of GMA 7 focuses on complying with all music use requirements. This involves the entire process for proper music usage in all network platforms, from securing clearance for use to the tedious job of preparing and submitting cue sheets. The unit facilitates coordination and communication between the network and copyright owners/administrators for all its requirements for the use of musical works, making the Society's job much easier.
Filscap Now A Regular Cisac Member
After 42 years of existence Filscap is finally an official regular member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), the umbrella organization of all composers' societies in the world.

ATTENTION: Members Who Are Senior Citizens

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), in its Revenue Memorandum Circular
Number RMC-2008-013, has recently included in the list of persons who are exempt
from income tax all citizens if they are at least sixty (60) years of age and if
their earnings were during the taxable year received purely from fixed (other than
compensation) income like commissions, royalties, and the like, except those incomes
derived from dividends paid by any public or private corporation where the taxpayer
is one of the stockholders and/or incomes derived from profit shares paid by partnerships
where the taxpayer is one of the partners
Therefore, it follows in principle that the withholding of income tax is no longer
required for these members if and when they fall under this category. |
